3-star ecolodge on the western tip of Sainte Marie, facing Madagascar: private beach, wooden bungalows and direct access to Ikalalao and Ampatsy forests.

The Masoandro Lodge is a 3-star ecolodge perched on a hillside on the west coast of Sainte Marie Island, overlooking the channel that separates the archipelago from the mainland. The property combines a private beach, wooden bungalows scattered throughout a tropical garden, and direct access to the island's interior forests.

Why choose Masoandro Lodge

  • Secluded setting on the western tip of Sainte Marie, accessed by private path
  • Private beach and swimming pool reserved for residents
  • Immediate proximity to Ikalalao and Ampatsy forests for hiking
  • Open-air restaurant with sea views and Malagasy, Creole, or European cuisine
  • Dedicated spa and wellness kiosk
  • 3-star ecolodge category with two bungalow tiers

Atmosphere and setting

The lodge sits on gently sloping terrain between coconut plantations and the sea. The bungalows are arranged to preserve privacy between each accommodation, and the dense vegetation acts as a natural buffer—the sound of the surf and birdsong carries far more than voices from neighboring rooms. The private beach below, the guest-only pool, and meticulously maintained gardens structure the outdoor living spaces.

The western orientation has a tangible benefit: sunsets unfold directly facing the bungalows, with Madagascar's outline as a backdrop, roughly 7 km across the channel.

Things to do nearby

The setting allows you to blend beach relaxation with day excursions. The Ikalalao and Ampatsy forests, accessible with a local guide, are the most direct nature option: chameleons, nocturnal lemurs, endemic birds. Sainte Marie is also renowned for humpback whale watching from July to September, departing from Ambodifotatra or Île Madame.

To extend your stay on Sainte Marie or explore other options, also consider the Princesse Bora Lodge and Seatyzen Lodge. To branch out to other Malagasy islands, see Home Madagascar on Nosy Be or, on the west coast, Belle Vue Ifaty.
