Nosy Lonjo | Sugarloaf of Diégo-Suarez

Nosy Lonjo, also known as the "Sugarloaf of Diégo-Suarez," is located in the far north of Madagascar, at the heart of Diégo-Suarez Bay. While renowned for its incredible natural wealth—featuring mangroves, baobabs, and diverse wildlife, including fruit bats—the volcanic islet also serves as a mausoleum for deceased Sakalava sovereigns.

As a sacred site, Nosy Lonjo holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Its name and shape are a nod to Rio de Janeiro’s famous Sugarloaf Mountain, and it is located in the world’s second-largest bay, second only to Rio’s.
