Overview

The current crisis related to COVID-19 is the perfect time for our agency, Détours Madagascar, to further our reflections already underway in favor of Sustainable Development and a more responsible form of tourism. We are firmly committed to using our skills and human and technical resources in service of the conservation of Madagascar’s terrestrial and marine ecosystems, raising awareness among local populations about the preservation of these natural environments, and creating income-generating activities for these local communities by enhancing their natural and cultural heritage.

Objectives

1. To actively and concretely engage in actions that align with our vision and values: to use all our workforce, skills, and human and material resources to contribute to addressing the economic, social, and environmental consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Madagascar.  
2. To minimize the socio-economic impact on our collaborators: the current crisis has brought the whole world to a halt, and tourism in Madagascar has not been spared. This skills assessment and the development of a new line of business related to our expertise is also a way to protect our collaborators from precariousness and prevent the disappearance of our company.

Characteristics

We have defined different areas in which our skills and human and technical resources can be useful. These areas may be related to the health, social, economic, and environmental response to the COVID-19 epidemic, but they can and should also be part of sustainable approaches. These initial lines of thought are not intended to be exhaustive and may lead to the opening of new possibilities.
