An independent spirit, researcher, filmmaker, and naturalist at heart, Cyrille Cornu harbors a genuine passion for baobabs. Author of numerous publications on the subject, he sets out on expeditions each year to study these giants in the remote forests deep within Madagascar. Inspired by the island's beauty, this tireless traveler produced his first film in 2015, titled "Baobabs Between Land and Sea." Surprised by the success of this inaugural venture into audiovisual media, he has since dedicated himself to producing documentary films and pursuing photographic and literary projects. Currently, he is working on a series of which "Mamody, the Last Baobab Seeker" is the first episode. The two other installments are in production.

Without further ado, we are delighted to present two remarkable journeys we have had the pleasure of designing with Cyrille:

An Expedition into the Heart of the Baobab Forests of Southwestern Madagascar with Cyrille Cornu

Author-Led Travels with Détours Madagascar: Cyrille Cornu Unveils Two Journeys into the World of Baobabs

Adventure seekers, biodiversity enthusiasts, and baobab lovers, this journey is designed for you. Explorer, scientist, and globally recognized specialist in baobabs, Cyrille Cornu has created an itinerary to take you to encounter Madagascar's most beautiful baobab forests.

The journey we offer you is located in the southwestern part of the island between the cities of Morondava and Tuléar. Throughout this adventure, you will benefit from the explanations of the great specialist, Cyrille, who will accompany you and provide you with the knowledge necessary to understand the extraordinary diversity of baobabs on the Grande Île. A conference organized as close as possible to the subject matter in the form of a naturalistic journey. As dusk falls, you will have the chance to witness an unforgettable spectacle: the blooming of a baobab flower. You will observe the animals that visit these flowers, approach the most beautiful baobab specimens in perfectly preserved ecosystems, and encounter both the most powerful baobabs on the island and the tiniest ones. During the expedition, Cyrille will share with you the fruits of his years of research. He will address the impact of deforestation as well as climate change. He will introduce you to numerous local practices linked to these giants, including the unique worldwide practice of baobab diggers who, to survive in an extremely arid region, the Mahafaly plateau, create cisterns inside the baobabs themselves!
