As Madagascar is the fifth largest island in the world (with more than 5,000 km of coastline), it is entirely natural to expect to find a multitude of magnificent beaches.

After a stay in southern Madagascar, travelers will remember above all the beaches: Baie des Assassins, Beheloka, Libanona, Itampolo, Nosy Ve…

Libanona

Southeastern Madagascar boasts some truly beautiful beaches, such as Libanona, in Taolagnaro, known as Fort-Dauphin. It is very pleasant to stroll there. A beach bordered by emerald waters with a backdrop of verdant hills and greenery… The landscape is simply picturesque! You would want to stay there all day long!

This beach is renowned among surfing enthusiasts, as the wind here is perfect and the waves magnificent. In the surrounding area, you will find other swimming spots, namely the Evatraha peninsula, Lokaro beach and Lake Manivo.

Baie des Assassins

Baie des Assassins is nothing like a frightening place! The name comes from a story dating back to the 19th century, that of sailors from a British warship who were reportedly massacred on this beach. The place is actually very beautiful and peaceful, inspiring well-being and "peace of mind"!

The bay is located near Andavadaoka and Tanambao, a few kilometers from the famous Mikea forest. As you are here on the southwestern Malagasy coast, you can admire the sailing boats of Vezo fishermen and perhaps even take a trip out to sea.

Beheloka

Beheloka is one of those typical beaches in southwestern Madagascar: white sand bar and translucent waters in an isolated setting. Unfortunately, this gem located 250 km from Toliara is gradually being eroded by the sea due to deforestation.

The coral reef is however still there for the great pleasure of divers, coming with their own equipment. Obviously, the villagers are Vezo and they are fishermen, but also red algae cultivators. On the agenda for travelers: bivouacking on site, then a short trip in a pirogue.

Itampolo

Located 360 km south of Toliara, Itampolo surprises with its immensity: dream beaches and white dunes stretching to the horizon. The village is large and the population quite numerous compared to other beaches in the isolated corners of the southwestern coast. This takes nothing away from the charm of the destination!

The setting remains peaceful and swimming and diving are always just as enjoyable! The population is very welcoming and will ensure that your visit with them is pleasant. The children, curious to see people different from themselves, hop, play and laugh on the beach as they watch the travelers.

Nosy Ve

Still on the southwestern coast, the island of Nosy Ve is a small sanctuary of nature. This is where red-tailed tropicbirds breed, birds coming from other islands of the Pacific and Indian Ocean. The advantage of Nosy Ve is that the beach is almost deserted and is composed of sand of coral origin. The seabed is also exceptional, carpeted with broken white shells in small pieces.

Armed with just a mask and snorkel, dive to admire multicolored fish, including clownfish, triggerfish, seahorses, large-headed sea eels, etc. Turtles and stingrays will also be part of the experience.

For even more discovery and wonder, head to Anakao, about 5 km away. It is a beach of exceptional beauty where the water is always transparent and shallow. You can admire whales and dolphins among other things!
