The 3 Bays is the name given to the bays located near Diego Suarez, in the north of Madagascar. These three bays are Dune Bay, Pigeon Bay and Sakalava Bay. All three are highly renowned for their magnificent white sand beaches contrasting with the turquoise waters and are highly sought-after destinations for tours and excursions, most often by 4x4.
The three bays are connected by a sandy road and a coastal footpath. This path allows explorers who prefer to go unguided to move easily on foot and discover the magnificent views of the landscape or listen to the sound of the waves and birds.
In the third bay, Sakalava Bay, you can find the Sakalava Bay Club, a tourist hotel with ten bungalows located in a bay exposed to the wind and the large swells of the Indian Ocean, making it one of the island's best surf spots. Access is available by sea or by the road leading to Ramena. It's a superb destination that isn't as heavily visited as the others.
It's possible to start by visiting Dune Bay via Ramena (but only by 4x4). However, in this case, visitors must cross a military zone and are quite likely to encounter a corrupt guard who will expect a bribe as a toll. You can avoid this by accessing the bays via Sakalava instead. From there, you can reach the other bays via a steep road and admire the emerald sea from afar.
