The difficulty levels of our hikes
Choose the right trekking adventure for your abilities and expectations.
Choose the right trekking adventure for your abilities and expectations.
The hikes and treks we offer in Madagascar are in no way extreme sporting endeavors. That said, it's essential to choose your journey carefully to ensure it aligns perfectly with your expectations and your physical and mental capabilities. Beyond the inherent challenges of trekking itself, you should consider climatic and seasonal factors (heat, cold, rainfall) as well as remoteness. In Madagascar, altitude is not a significant factor, as no peak rises above 2,800 meters.
Hiking difficulty levels:
- Easy: 4 to 5 hours of walking per day. Suitable for anyone who enjoys leisurely walks. Slow pace, minimal technical difficulty, with average daily elevation gain under 400 meters.
- Moderate: 5 to 6 hours of walking per day. Ideal for those with decent stamina and some hiking or sports experience. Steady pace, minimal technical challenges, with average daily elevation gain under 600 meters.
- Intermediate: 5 to 7 hours of walking per day. Best suited for hikers with good endurance and regular hiking or sports practice. Steady pace with moderate technical difficulties, average daily elevation gain under 800 meters.
- Demanding: 5 to 8 hours of walking per day. Requires excellent physical fitness, as stages can be lengthy. You must be able to maintain this pace over several consecutive days. Daily elevation gain can reach 900 meters.
- Challenging: Itineraries designed for experienced trekkers. These require exceptional mental resilience due to remote locations and extended journey duration, combined with excellent physical conditioning. Daily elevation gain may exceed 1,000 meters.
