- We recommend using a large backpack or a soft bag. You won't have the opportunity to use the wheels of your luggage, and a backpack is easier to carry and stack in 4x4 vehicles.
- A small backpack for daily excursions. Preferably, use a waterproof backpack or a cover to protect your gear in case of rain (rainy season from November to March), as well as your documents.
Here's a checklist to help you prepare your luggage for a trip to Madagascar:
Documents you must not forget:
- Your valid passport
- Your international and/or domestic flight tickets
- Your repatriation insurance/first-aid expenses policy
- Your vaccination record (not mandatory)
- Your blood group card, if possible
Clothing:
- From April to October: Pack warm clothes: A good sweater or a micro-down jacket, pants, socks, and a scarf or shawl, as evenings can be chilly, especially in the Highlands.
- Clothing for trekking, hiking, and other physical activities: A good pair of waterproof shoes, preferably with high tops, in which you feel comfortable.
- A waterproof jacket, such as a K-way or Gore-Tex.
- Your beachwear: swimsuit, sarong, shorts or dress.
- A hat or cap.
- If you still have room, you can bring an outfit for dining out or strolling in the streets, flip-flops, and a pair of city shoes or sneakers.
Pharmacy and Hygiene :
- A first-aid kit
- Sanitary pads or tampons (these can be difficult to find locally for women)
- Antibacterial gel and wipes
- Mosquito repellent or citronella to protect against bites
- A tube of sunscreen with a high SPF (minimum 30)
- Sunglasses (category 3 minimum)
- Biodegradable laundry detergent, in case you need to wash clothes
Other:
- A camera to bring back fantastic memories. A camera with a large zoom lens is preferable for photographing animals; however, there are now very good compact cameras that are easier to carry and more discreet in big cities.
- A solar charger or spare batteries for your camera
- A notebook and pencil to jot down your impressions
- For adventurous travelers who are going camping: a multi-tool knife, flashlight, sleeping bag, and perhaps an inflatable pillow
Note: The accommodations we offer provide sheets, soap, and towels.
