Visa and administrative formalities

Important: Your passport must be valid. It is essential that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the end of your stay in Madagascar.

For stays of less than two months, an entry and stay visa is required. Obtaining a tourist visa is very simple and can be done directly at the airport upon your arrival.

Upon disembarking the plane, you will pass through the “Foreign Passport, Non-Resident” lane. You must have your valid passport, your electronic ticket, a return or onward flight ticket (with the presentation of the ticket and visa for the following country), and an accommodation address.

You will pay the visa fee at the airport counter. Once you have obtained the disembarkation authorization, you will proceed to the border control counter, where they will issue your secure visa sticker. 

The visa price depends on the duration of your stay:  

➢ Short Stay Visa (non-convertible) :  

- 0 to 30 days : €18  

- 31 to 60 days : €23  

- 61 to 90 days : €32   

➢ Convertible into a Long Stay Visa: €32 

The visa is valid for a maximum duration of 90 days. This so-called non-immigrant visa is neither extendable nor convertible into a long-stay visa, and it does not grant the right to engage in any paid activity. This process applies to all international airports in Madagascar. 

However, if a foreign national wishes to stay longer on the island, they can obtain a 1-month visa upon arrival at the airport. This so-called "convertible" visa is extendable for up to 10 years or even longer. The 1-month duration allows the individual to complete the necessary steps to regularize their status.
