Traveling with children in Madagascar

Madagascar is a destination well-suited for family travel, though it’s important to choose an itinerary that fits their abilities. The local population is incredibly warm and will be happy to welcome you and your children.

The First Aid Kit: We recommend packing a first aid kit for your children similar to the one you’d bring for yourself. You can check the health and vaccination section for more details.

The Flight: A long-haul flight is long… prepare your children for the journey, as you'll need to keep them occupied. Also, Madagascar is vast—almost the same size as France. The road network is underdeveloped, and journeys can take several hours. It’s advisable to plan routes with fewer long trips to avoid spending your days in a 4x4.

Food: In most of our accommodations, restaurants offer French and European cuisine. Your children won’t feel out of place when it comes to food.

Meeting the Malagasy People: Meeting the locals is even more fascinating when you’re with your children. You’ll likely be asked lots of questions: Where are you from? How old are the children? What are their names? Since many people speak a bit of French (especially in small villages), communication is relatively easy. Don’t be surprised if you see your child playing and laughing with local Malagasy children—at that age, there are no barriers. This is one of the beauties of traveling.
