Camping Equipment
How does a camping trip with Détours Madagascar go? To give you all the details, we’ve prepared a small list of the equipment we provide for you to have a great adventure off the beaten track.
- A three-person tent will be provided for two people, so you can store your luggage inside. You will sleep on a ground mat and a 5 cm foam mattress for extra comfort. We also have a mess tent that can accommodate up to 12 people. A toilet tent will be provided for certain trips; otherwise, we’ll teach you our techniques for taking care of business in nature while keeping the site clean ;-)
- Our cook brings everything necessary for preparing his recipes, and when we travel by 4x4 and porters are not needed, we’ve planned a table and stools for a very comfortable meal.
On your side, you’ll just need to bring clothes, sleeping bags, a simple toiletry kit, and all the accessories of the perfect hiker. For more details, feel free to check out our “packing tips” section.
A few details about the sleeping bag: Depending on the region of your stay and the area where you’ll be camping, you’ll need some advice on the climate to choose the right sleeping bag.
- For treks in the Andringitra massif and the Central Highlands, nights can be chilly, so bring a sleeping bag with a temperature range between 0°C and +5°C.
- For the rest (Makay, Isalo, North), a sleeping bag between +5°C and 10°C is sufficient. Choose a sleeping bag with an anatomical shape, a hood, drawstring, flap, and zipper, about 20 cm longer than your height. This will be more comfortable.
A sleeping bag liner is recommended: cotton or silk, preferably made of stretchy fabric so you don’t feel too restricted. As with the sleeping bag, a liner that is wider and longer than you is more suitable.
